
Dave Sexton was born in Islington in 1930. Son of former professional boxer Archie Sexton, he started his professional career with Luton Town in 1951, following spells with non-league clubs Newmarket Town and Chelmsford City.
Playing mainly at inside-forward, he would finish his career with time at West Ham United, Brighton & Hove Albion (1957-59 53 appearances, 28 goals) and Crystal Palace. He was part of the Seagulls team that won the Third Division South title in 1957-58.
Dave then moved into management where he had a tremendous career leading Chelsea and Manchester United, amongst others.
