Tom Evans appeared briefly for Birmingham during the 1917-18 wartime season, and signed for the ‘Blues’ in June 1919 from Cradley St Luke’s. During the 1919-20 season he played in six Second Division matches, five of which ended in victory, but then spent the following campaign in the reserves before being released to join the Albion in August 1921.
With long-serving Jack Woodhouse occupying the right-half berth, Tom’s opportunity didn’t arrive until the following April when he played in five successive matches during Woodhouse’s absence due to an injury, but he was released at the end of the 1921-22 season and returned to the Midlands to join Cradley Heath on their elevation to the Birmingham League.
