Bert Jepson

Bert Jepson

Bert Jepson played for Frickley Colliery in the Midland Langue as a youngster and joined the Huddersfield Town staff in May 1927 but with so many great players available at Leeds Road, he was never in contention for a first-team place and was released to join Southampton in August 1928.

His obvious skills were given more scope at The Dell, and he scored eighteen goals in 95 League and Cup matches during a four-year stay. In June 1932 the Yorkshire winger moved to Fulham on a free transfer and spent a season in their reserve team before coming to the Goldstone in August 1933. In two years with the Albion, Bert shared the right-wing spot with Stan Thompson, but retired from the professional game in 1935. Taking employment with the Belgravia Dairy, he managed their outlet in Hangleton, for almost 20 years and assisted their football club to the Sussex Intermediate Cup in 1936. In 1951, at the age of 48, Bert was still playing locally for Hove, and also coached the then Sussex County League club.

Bert played 54 matches for the Seagulls between 1933 and 1935 scoring 11 goals.
