
Oldbury, Staffordshire born winger Jack Nightingale started his football career with Brandhall Rovers in 1918 and joined Second Division Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1919 from Kidderminster Harriers making his Football League debut against Lincoln City in January 1920, but he only played 3 times that season for Wolves and joined non league Shrewsbury Town that summer. A year later he returned to Football League action with Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 1921, where he enjoyed 6 seasons, scoring 33 goals in 195 games for The Seagulls, before re-joining Shrewsbury Town in 1927.
