Bedlington born full back Jim Rutherford joined Ashington in 1919 after the end of the First World War before joining Brighton & Hove Albion in 1920, making his Football League debut that November against Swansea Town and making 32 appearances for the Seagulls before moving to play in the United States in 1922.
