Having played for the Devonport Royal Naval Barracks, Plymouth Argyle and Reading during the First World War, Ossie Randall joined the Albion on his demob in August 1919 as a reserve goalkeeper, and displayed such form for the ‘Lambs’ that he was selected for the Southern League’s representative team which was defeated 5-1 by the Central League at Wolverhampton in March 1922.
Unfortunate to be at the Goldstone at the same time as the amazingly consistent Billy Hayes, Ossie made the first team just once in his three years at the Goldstone (the only game Hayes missed in five seasons).
In August 1922 he was transferred to Swindon Town where, after a season in the reserves, he was finally given the opportunity of first-team football, appearing in 71 Third Division (South) matches before his release to join Exeter City in August 1926. After playing fourteen Third Division (South) matches for the ‘Grecians’, Ossie forsook League football in May 1927.
