Signed by Frank Scott-Walford from Midland League Newark (along with his namesake Wally Smith) in July 1906, Alec Smith was more-or-less a regular in the side at right-half in the first half of the 1906-07 season, but fell completely out of favour in the New Year and spent the rest of the campaign in the reserves. Described as being ‘a surer tackler than he is a placer’, the burly wing-half was released in May 1907 and left for an unknown minor destination.
