Crosby Henderson

Recruited by Newcastle United from Wearside League club Hylton Star in May 1906 Crosby Henderson continued to ply his trade as a fitter in a Sunderland shipyard in his two seasons at St James’s Park, but failed to make the United first team and was transferred to Grimsby Town in May 1908. At Blundell Park, Crosby enjoyed much greater success and became the regular left-back. After 65 Second Division appearances for the ‘Mariners’, he moved to Birmingham in May 1910, but, after playing in the first six games of the season, he languished in the reserves until being released in May 1911.

The 26-year-old full-back then came to the Goldstone and was given a run at right-back in Albion’s Southern League team, but failed to fulfil expectations and lost his place to Ralph Rutledge in December 1911. Released at the end of the season, Crosby departed for Luton Town, his last senior club.

Crosby played 13 matches for the Seagulls in 1911-12.
