Cyril Bland was a right-hand batsman and right-arm fast bowler who played 145 matches between 1897 and 1904.
He took 553 wickets at 24.21 runs each and scored 991 runs at 6.48. His career was short and brilliant. In his debut season he took 129 wickets, 82 in 1898, 108 in 1899 and 112 in 1900. His bowling then declined and there was talk of a suspect action.
He took all ten Kent wickets for 48 at Tonbridge in 1899. Ian Thomson is the only other bowler to take all ten for Sussex.
