Newcastle United paid £10 for seventeen-year-old Ernie Hall’s signature in September 1933 when he was playing for the West Wylam club, but in three-and-a-half years at St James’s Park he had little opportunity to shine, making the League side on just two occasions. In May 1937 he joined the Albion, but again his chances were somewhat limited and, after acting as under- study to Jack Stevens for two seasons, Ernie left for Stoke City just before the outbreak of war in September 1939.
Ernie made 4 appearances for the Seagulls in the period 1937 to 1939.
