Hartshill, Warwickshire born outside left Ernie Ison played for Nuneaton Town in 1922 before joining Brighton & Hove Albion in August 1924, for whom he made his Football League debut against Southend United in April 1926. He was a fringe player who made over 300 appearances for Brighton’s reserve team, but was restricted to occasional appearances in the first team, making 16 senior appearances between his first team debut and his last outing in October 1930, and he left the club in June 1931, joining Southport. At Haig Avenue he scored once in 10 appearances in the autumn of 1931, before joining Watford in August 1932, He played 3 times, scoring once, for The Hornets before joining non league Ramsgate Athletic in May 1933, returning to the Midlands with Cradley Heath in 1935.
