Plymouth-born Fred Binney was a lethal goal-scorer who banged in 44 goals for the Seagulls in just 85 games.

His early career was spent with Torquay United who had spotted him playing for Launceston, and then Exeter City before Brian Clough signed him for Brighton & Hove Albion in 1974, where he stayed until 1977.

Fred enjoyed a spell in the United States with St Louis Stars in 1977 and then returned home to join the Plymouth Argyle. His career ended with Hereford United.
