Len Hyde

Len Hyde

Len Hyde’s career can be best described as ‘nomadic’. After playing for Harborne in the Birmingham Junior League, he joined Kidderminster Harriers in 1896 and went on to play for Grimsby Town (signed April 1897), Bristol St George’s (January 1898), Wellingborough Town (close season 1898), Tottenham Hotspur (May 1899) and Wellingborough for a second spell (April 1902).

Signed by the Albion in July 1903 for the club’s initial season in the Southern League’s First Division, Len performed with great skill and aplomb down either wing. A tricky ball-player with exceptional pace, he played in 29 League games before leaving for Doncaster Rovers in August 1904 on their re-election to the Football League. He missed just two matches as Rovers finished bottom of the League and were swiftly voted out again.

Len played 29 matches for the Seagulls in 1903-04 scoring 4 goals.
