Ted Rodgerson

Ted Rodgerson

Ted Rodgerson started his professional career at the age of 22 when Huddersfield Town at signed him from Boldon Colliery in August 1913, but there was little chance of a place in the Second Division team for the inexperienced inside-forward and he was released to join Southend United in the Southern League in May 1914.

During the war years Ted played no senior football, but in June 1919 he was transferred to Second Division Bury for a £10 fee, where he notched three goals in thirteen League appearances before Charlie Webb paid £100 to bring him to the Goldstone in August 1920.

Ted’s debut was Albion’s first match as a Football League club, and he missed only five games during that initial Third Division campaign. The following season he retained a place in the first team, but an injury suffered in the superb 1-0 F.A. Cup defeat of First Division Sheffield United in January 1922 effectively finished his career.

Ted had a brief spell with Leyton Orient from January 1923, but didn’t appear in the League side.
